Last night saw a fantastic finale to many Carnivals in Mexico for 2010.

On "Fat Tuesday" thousands turned out to dance in the streets and watch the boisterous parades.

From Veracruz, to Chetumal to Cozumel, Mexican town squares were packed for the official closing events for this year's Carnival and prizes were presented to outstanding Carnival participants, from groups of children to teachers and animals.

In Cozumel, the week of main Carnival events concludes every year on 'Fat Tuesday' with dazzling technicolour processions along the downtown seafront.

After the seafront extravaganza, the music keeps playing and parties continue well into the night. Costumed revellers battle in dancing competitions and bands play live music around the city.
