As reported in our exclusive news story last week, the Mexican government has formally invited bids to build and operate the new Tulum airport.

The full, detailed requirements for bidders were published this morning in Mexico's Official Federation Journal or Diario Oficial de la Federación.

The document confirmed that the Riviera Maya airport concession will be granted to the winning bidder for a period of 50 years.

The government's Secretary for Transport and Communications said the airport will "detonate" economic development in the area and reduce transfer times from Cancun and Cozumel.

There were no surprises in the small print and all the other key information matched what we have reported here previously:

• Capacity of 700,000 passengers in the first year, rising to 3 million in its third year.
• First Mexican airport funded and built entirely with private investment, under a government concession.
• Built on approximately 3,700 acres (1,500 hectares) of "greenfield" land.
• Includes terminal building, 3,773 yard (3,450m) runway, taxiways, operating areas, fuel station and control tower.
• Modern technology and installations, with ability to receive short and long haul flights, including those to and from Europe.
