Travelocity, North America’s most popular travel website, has put out a top ten list of the world’s best family vacation spots for the summer of 2011. Cancun, Mexico, has reached the number two spot on this exclusive list, and it is really not hard to see why.

Situated on Mexico’s eastern coast at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, the city of Cancun rises up out of the jungle like paradise.  With one of the region’s busiest international airports, Cancun is the gateway to the Riviera Maya and the many resorts that line the magnificent white sandy beaches located throughout the region. With a wide variety of accommodations to suit any vacationer’s budget, Cancun will not disappoint.

The sparkling blue of the Caribbean Ocean caresses one side of Cancun real estate.  There are a multitude of activities to be found in the area: jungle tours that can be arranged, ancient Mayan ruins to be explored, fresh water cave diving and a whole host of theme parks to have adventures in.  The beaches are among the very best in the world with easy access to parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, boating, swimming, kitesurfing and even body surfing.  Families can enjoy horseback riding along the beaches or on the jungle trails, pack a picnic lunch, or spend an afternoon zip lining through the trees.

Traditionally, Cancun has been very popular with the party crowd and while there are certainly nightspots to be found, there are also many families that come back to Cancun year after year.  Cancun is also popular as a wedding or honeymoon destination and this is where many families are introduced to Mexico as a vacation destination.
